20.03.09 - Important news for teams playing in the Premier & Division 1 - Umpires and Scorers

As a Committee we are always striving to improve the standard of the umpiring in the League. To aid this and to fall in line with other leagues, we have decided that starting from April, all teams playing on a Wednesday night will not only have to supply an umpire for the opposite game but must also supply a scorer.

It is hoped that in two years time all umpires on a Wednesday will be of a B Award standard. For all existing C Award umpires we have the help of “mentors” to assist them to gain the necessary qualifications. If you have any umpires in your team wanting to be mentored, please forward their contact details to me so that they can be included.

There is also a shortage of C Award umpires. Please encourage your umpires and players to help. Unqualified umpires are allowed to umpire on a Tuesday evening, to gain experience. The waiting list for taking the C Award test is not very long at the moment!! So anyone who believes themselves capable please apply as soon as possible.

Only ‘C’, ‘B’ and ‘A’ Award umpires are recognised as qualified umpires. If your umpire is a ‘prelim’ or ‘intermediate,’ their qualification is no longer recognised and they must retake their test.
